W. Luke Johnson, Jr., DDS, PA (Retired)
Dr. Johnson received his Bachelor of Science degree in biology and chemistry from East Tennessee State University in 1963. After undergrad, he served in the military as a First Lieutenant in the Medical Service Corporation at Fort Knox in Kentucky for two years. Following his time in Fort Knox, he served in the Army reserves while completing his dental degree at the University of Tennessee.
Upon graduation in 1969, Dr. Johnson and his wife settled down in North Carolina, making Greensboro their home. He spent his first year after graduation as a staff dentist for the Guilford County Health Department. In 1970 he opened the doors to his dental practice on the corner of Tate and Walker near UNC-G. After a couple of years working there, he moved into the Friendly Holden Building where he remained for the duration of his career.
Dr. Johnson has always enjoyed giving back. Early in his career, he had an annual “Free Day” where he served the underprivileged, seeing as many patients as he could free of charge. This led to him supporting several charities with free dental care including Freedom House, Delancey Street and Room at the Inn. He has been on several mission trips to Costa Rica and started a dental clinic in Romania that was named the “Dr. Luke” clinic.
He is a lifelong member of the American Dental Association, North Carolina Dental Society, Academy of General Dentistry and Guilford County Dental Society. In December 2020, after 51 years of working in family dentistry, Dr. Johnson sold his beloved practice. He truly loved the dental profession and is thankful his legacy is carrying on through Westover Dental Group.
